Shoalhaven River camping

A couple of adventures had fallen through recently so I really wanted to escape the city, even for just a night.

I battled the afternoon traffic out of Sydney and drove to Bungonia National Park. Arriving late in the day, I shouldered my pack and hiked down the steep track to the banks of the Shoalhaven River.

There wasn't much light remaining by the time I found the perfect spot to set up camp, after getting comfortable I cooked dinner by the water as the day faded.

It was a warm night and the mosquitoes were out in force, so it wasn't long before I nestled into my hammock. I had a view to the sky through mosquito netting and gazed about while I listened to music late into the night.

I awoke the next morning to the sound of the river next to me, a low haze hanging in the sky.

It was shaping up to be another very hot morning, aiming to beat the worst of the heat on the steep hike out I packed up camp, skipping breakfast but settling for a coffee on the river. A quick dip in the shallow river and I was off.

Ninety minutes later I was back to my car, a quick change into dry clothes and I was off home. A nice little weekend getaway.
