Babylon Wall, Mt Ngungun

Hoping for some clear skies we left Brisbane early Saturday morning and made our way north to the Glass House Mountains. We headed to the previously unexplored Babylon Wall on the north eastern face of Mt Ngungun.

Walking through the damp scrub we arrived to wet rock and several small waterfalls cascading down some of the climbing routes.

Undeterred we found some lower graded climbs and set off trying to tick off a few routes in the wet. We managed Dang Fool (14), Fool's Errand (14) and Herzinator (13) without slipping off the slick and slippery wall before the sun and heat of the day dried up a few more routes.

We then climbed Hijinx (17) and Gossamer (19) before running out of dry routes to attempt. We called it a day and heading back to the township for the customary post climbing pizza and coffee.

An enjoyable morning, I will return with things dry out.

Climbing Mt Ngungun

Another gorgeous Autumn day, Kaz and I decided to make to make the most of it so we drove north to Mt Ngungun to do some rock climbing.

We headed straight to the Owl Pillar but found it was already being climbed, so we continued along to the lower main wall and decided to warm up on a tricky 18, 'Summer Holiday'.

With lots of committing, pumpy moves just above an awkward overhang it probably wasn't the easiest way to start the day, but we both topped out and made our way back to the Owl Pillar.

We spent the rest of the day on 'Afternoon Delight' (18) and 'Dawn Raid' (19) which are short, fun routes with lots of great moves.

A great way to end the weekend, we sat on the top of the pillar and enjoyed the view before heading back home.

Climbing Mt. Ngungun

Taking advantage of the Easter holidays we drove north to the Glass House Mountains to try our luck climbing Mt Ngungun.

It was a beautiful day for climbing as we trekked to the Andromeda wall to warm up. After successfully tackling Lunar Eclipse (15), Worm Hole (18) and Southern Cross (18) we decided to relocate to the Owl Pillar to tackle some harder climbs.

After a semi-false start on Morning Madness (18), I cranked up Afternoon Delight (18) which buoyed my confidence and gave me a second wind. I cleanly finished Morning Madness (18) before finishing the day with a sustained climb up Dawn Raid (19).

A great end to the day.

Return to Mt Ngungun

We returned to Mt Ngungun to tackle another section of wall, this time heading to the 'Lower Main Cliff'. We managed a couple of tricky but fun climbs in the heat of the day, definitely harder than the similarly graded 'Andromeda' wall nearby. A great variety of moves required and a fantastic feeling to make it up to the anchors at the end of the climb and look out over the nearby valley.

All in all a great but very tiring day.

Climbing Mt Ngungun, Glass House Mountains

Driving north under darkened skies I was expecting the rain to start falling before I even got to the base of Mt Ngungin in the Glass House Mountains. Luckily the rain held off and we managed to get in about six hours of climbing before the thunder started to roll in.

Chris and I had a decent crack at the 'Andromeda' wall on the west side of My Ngungun. Nice cool, quiet day, lots of fun routes that we felt were mostly graded too high. We managed to get a couple of photos on 'Gravitational Equilibrium (18)' while leading to the first bolt.
